The Vanderburgh County Democratic Party has selected Rita Taylor through caucus to fill the vacancy on the Evansville City Council representing the Second Ward.

The opening follows the resignation of Missy Mosby, who served the Second Ward for 18 years before stepping down in October to become Director of Evansville Animal Care & Control.

Taylor is a seasoned political strategist, educator, and racial and social justice advocate with more than two decades of experience promoting equity, education, and civic engagement. Her career has focused on empowering communities and connecting residents to policy solutions that improve daily life.

“Rita Taylor brings experience, integrity, and deep compassion for people,” said Cheryl Schultz, Chair of the Vanderburgh County Democratic Party. “We are confident she will serve the residents of the Second Ward with dedication and vision.” Taylor said she looks forward to continuing the tradition of strong community leadership in the Second Ward and working collaboratively to advance progress across Evansville.
