Looking for ways to get involved, learn something new or weigh in on decisions affecting the community? Here are several upcoming events, programs and opportunities in Evansville and the surrounding area.

Sept. 7 | Labor Day delays Evansville trash and recycling pickup by one day

Evansville Water and Sewer Utility business offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day, and Republic Services trash and recycling collections will be delayed by one day for the week.

Republic Services will not collect trash or recycle on Monday. Collections will resume Tuesday and continue through Saturday, with Monday routes collected Tuesday, Tuesday routes Wednesday and so on through Friday routes on Saturday.

EWSU business offices will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8. Customers can access utility services online while offices are closed. Water or sewer emergencies can be reported at 812-421-2130. EWSU services: www.ewsu.com

Sept. 9 | Deadline to comment on regional transportation plan changes

Residents have until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, to comment on proposed amendments to the Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2026-2030 Transportation Improvement Program.

The proposed changes involve transportation projects across the metropolitan planning area, including projects involving the U.S. 41 Ohio River bridge, KY 425 and KY 812 in Henderson County and SR 62 in Vanderburgh and Posey counties.

Comments can be emailed to comments@evansvillempo.com, submitted by phone at 812-436-7833, or mailed to the Evansville MPO, Room 316, Civic Center Complex, 1 N.W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Evansville.

The MPO Policy Committee will consider the amendments at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in Room 301 of the Civic Center. Requests for disability accommodations or language assistance should be made by Sept. 3.

Sept. 11 | Block-by-Block event coming to Glenwood/Culver neighborhood

The City of Evansville will hold its third Block-by-Block neighborhood revitalization event of 2026 from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in the Glenwood/Culver neighborhood.

The event will bring city services, volunteers and community partners into the neighborhood as part of cleanup and revitalization efforts. The city also plans to demolish the 120th blighted home addressed through Mayor Stephanie Terry’s Fight Blight initiative.

The cleanup is being held in partnership with United Way of Southwestern Indiana’s Day of Caring.

Sept. 14 | Artist submissions due for EVPL’s ‘What Scares You?’ exhibit

Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is accepting submissions from artists of all ages for “What Scares You?,” its first spooky-themed visual arts exhibit.

Artists can submit works exploring fear in its many forms, from haunted houses and frightening encounters to psychological thrills and personal fears. Registration is open through Monday, Sept. 14.

The completed exhibit will be on display Oct. 1-30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at EVPL Central. A closing reception will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, with costumes encouraged and awards presented.

“What Scares You?” is presented by the Koch Foundation and supported by the EVPL Foundation.
