Looking for ways to get involved, learn something new or weigh in on decisions affecting the community? Here are several upcoming events, programs and opportunities in Evansville and the surrounding area.

Aug. 27 | Virtual session focuses on resources for people returning from incarceration

A virtual Lunch & Learn on Thursday, Aug. 27, will introduce the Road to Reentry program and ways community organizations, local jails and correctional partners can help connect people returning from incarceration with health care and other resources.

The session will cover health insurance, mental health services, housing, employment and other supports available during reentry. Participants will also learn how community partners can make referrals and work with the program.

The session will be held from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

Aug. 30 | Evansville rally part of statewide call to end ICE detention at Miami Correctional

An Evansville rally Sunday, Aug. 30, will be part of a statewide Weekend of Public Witness organized by the Indiana Organizing Project.

The organization says prayer vigils, teach-ins and rallies are planned at more than 55 locations across Indiana from Aug. 28-30. Participants are calling on Gov. Mike Braun to end the state’s housing of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees at Miami Correctional Facility.

The Evansville rally will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Main Street, across from the Civic Center.

Sept. 3 | JumpStart EVV begins fall real estate development cohort

JumpStart EVV is accepting participants for its Fall 2026 cohort, an 11-week program for aspiring real estate developers interested in building or rehabilitating quality, affordable housing in Evansville.

The program combines training and local mentorship covering property acquisition, zoning, construction, financing and growing a real estate investment.

The cohort begins Thursday, Sept. 3, and meets Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The program costs $100 upon acceptance, and the fee is refunded upon graduation.

Sept. 9 | Deadline to comment on regional transportation plan changes

Residents have until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, to comment on proposed amendments to the Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2026-2030 Transportation Improvement Program.

The proposed changes involve transportation projects across the metropolitan planning area, including projects involving the U.S. 41 Ohio River bridge, KY 425 and KY 812 in Henderson County and SR 62 in Vanderburgh and Posey counties.

The MPO Policy Committee will consider the amendments at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in Room 301 of the Civic Center. Requests for disability accommodations or language assistance should be made by Sept. 3.

Sept. 11 | Block-by-Block event coming to Glenwood/Culver neighborhood

The City of Evansville will hold its third Block-by-Block neighborhood revitalization event of 2026 from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in the Glenwood/Culver neighborhood.

The event will bring city services, volunteers and community partners into the neighborhood as part of cleanup and revitalization efforts. The city also plans to demolish the 120th blighted home addressed through Mayor Stephanie Terry’s Fight Blight initiative.

The cleanup is being held in partnership with United Way of Southwestern Indiana’s Day of Caring.

Community members can volunteer for the event.
