Black Business Spotlight: Meet Almarie McLamb, Owner The Sign Lady LLC
The Sign Lady LLC, where vision becomes visibility was founded by Almarie McLamb. This mission-driven business helps small businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations strengthen their presence through branding, design, digital solutions, and clear communication.

Why did you decide to start this business
I created The Sign Lady LLC because I saw too many small businesses and nonprofits permanently close their doors, not because they lacked passion or purpose, but because they lacked visibility, resources, and sustainable systems. In the wake of COVID-19, I observed that the organizations that endured often had strong brands, clear communication, and a trusted presence that could withstand changing circumstances. That realization changed the way I viewed business sustainability and inspired me to use my gifts in branding, design, and digital solutions to help organizations strengthen their impact.
The Sign Lady LLC was created to transform vision into visibility by building systems that help people not only see an organization, but understand its purpose, goals, and impact.
The Sign Lady LLC exists today to empower community-based small businesses, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations with the visibility and systems they need to grow, sustain , and fulfill the missions they were created to serve.
What do you hope this business will provide for the community?
I hope The Sign Lady LLC helps strengthen the organizations and small businesses that strengthen our community.
We support community-based businesses, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations by helping them become more visible, accessible, and understood. When people know what resources, services, businesses, and support are available to them, they are better equipped to participate, receive help, and invest back into their own community.
My goal is to help level the playing field by making high-quality branding, digital tools, and visibility solutions more accessible. Everyone deserves access to clear information, trusted resources, and quality experiences.
Ultimately, I want The Sign Lady LLC to help elevate the quality of access in our community while supporting the organizations created to serve it.
What has been your biggest challenge throughout the process of launching your business?
My biggest challenge has been growing as a small business while serving other small businesses,
nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations that are also trying to grow.
In many ways, their challenges are my challenges too. I understand what it feels like to have vision, purpose, and responsibility, while also needing more time, resources, capacity, and support.
That shared experience gives me compassion and insight, but it also reminds me of my own limitations. Because I care deeply about the quality and impact of the work, I have to be selective about the projects I take on. Sometimes that means saying no when my heart wants to say yes.
My hope is to grow The Sign Lady LLC in a way that allows me to serve more organizations, strengthen more missions, and help carry more of the community’s vision forward.
What is your advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?
My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is the same advice I would give anyone seeking direction: find a scripture, word, story, or promise in the Bible and allow that to guide what you build.
For me, that foundation is Habakkuk 2:2: “Write the vision and make it plain.” That scripture taught me that vision needs clarity, structure, and obedience. It is not enough to simply have an idea. You have to understand what you are building, who it is for, why it matters, and what will be required to sustain it.
Do not wait until everything is perfect because there will always be another reason to delay. Start with what God has already placed in your hands, whether that is your gifts, skills, relationships, resources, or opportunities.
Most importantly, do not quit too soon. Every business will face challenges, but challenges do not determine the outcome, your attitude does. How you respond in difficult seasons will be a part of your success story.
Businesses do not grow because they are started. They grow because they are stewarded. Keep taking faithful steps toward the vision God gave you, even when progress feels slow or uncertain. In time, what is faithfully nurtured will bear fruit.
