Black Business Spotlight:

After overcoming his own health struggles, Isaiah Baker turned his personal wellness journey into a growing business focused on providing healthier drink options for the community. Through Baker’s Earth Juice, he hopes to encourage better eating habits, increase access to fresh products, and help shift the culture around health and wellness.

Meet Isaiah Baker, Owner of Baker’s Earth Juice

When his doctor prescribed multiple medications to manage various health conditions, Isaiah Baker decided it was time to make a lifestyle change. He began eating fresh food, eliminated meat from his diet, and started juicing. Within a year, his health improved dramatically and he did not need medication. Motivated by his own health journey, Baker wanted to help others. He went to work in his kitchen creating refreshing juices that not only taste good but are good for you.

WHY DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS?

I started this business to provide healthier drink options for our community, because many of the available choices are often loaded with sugar or centered around alcohol. Through my own health journey, I came to understand the importance of consuming fresh, natural foods and drinks that are not heavily processed or filled with unnecessary chemicals.

Too often, especially in our neighborhoods, the options in stores are dominated by sugary, processed foods and beverages. I want to help change that narrative by making healthier choices more accessible, visible, and normalized. My goal is to encourage healthier eating and drinking habits and create a culture where wellness is a natural part of everyday life.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE THIS BUSINESS PROVIDES FOR THE COMMUNITY?

This business is also about creating opportunities for our community to learn more about making healthier choices and becoming more mindful of what we consume. Growing up, much of my diet consisted of ramen noodles, snacks, and heavily processed foods because that was what was accessible and normal. I also struggled with alcoholism early in my life, which opened my eyes to another issue that impacts our community but often is not talked about enough-especially with young people.

We have normalized unhealthy eating and drinking habits. My hope is that this business becomes part of changing that culture by offering healthier alternatives and encouraging people to make choices that improve their overall health, energy, and quality of life. Not just for today, but for the future.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE THROUGHOUT LAUNCHING YOUR BUSINESS?

My biggest challenge has been the amount of time and dedication it takes to make the juices fresh. Everything is prepared by hand using fresh ingredients, so the process can be very time-consuming. However, I believe providing quality products and healthier options for the community is worth the extra effort.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS?

Trust in yourself. People around you might doubt you and your ideas. If it’s really what you love to do, then go for it — take the risk!

WHAT IS NEXT FOR BAKER’S EARTH JUICE?

Now approaching one year in business, my products can already be found at River City Coffee and The Luxe, and I plan to continue expanding into more storefronts throughout the community. I will also be joining Bedford Collab as part of the next phase of growth for the business. I want to grow beyond beverages by offering plant-based food products and healthier meal options while also creating opportunities for education around nutrition, wellness, and healthy living.
