Black Business Spotlight-Meet Jasmine Coit
As an act of faith, Jasmine Coit launched LIT University to provide people the power to grow, solve problems, and build deeper connections.
Owner of LIT University
Experiencing firsthand the power of bridging learning tools and life experience, Jasmine Coit’s decision to launch Live in Training (LIT) transformed into a mission.
WHY DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS?
I started my business as an act of faith. LIT (Live in Training) University was born as a response to God’s guidance during a deeply personal season of heartbreak and healing in my life. As I sought resources to help me navigate that experience, I started to see the value in the lessons I had learned along the way. God showed me I was not alone, and led me to create services that could help others solve their greatest problems. In the beginning, I had no clue what that looked like. Exposure to other entrepreneurs showed me what was possible, and my career in learning and development showed me the importance of unlocking potential.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE THIS BUSINESS PROVIDES FOR THE COMMUNITY?
I hope LIT University provides the power to grow, tools to problem solve better, and the inspiration to build deeper connections. We often hear that knowledge is power. Scripture teaches us that people perish for a lack of knowledge. Too often, many of us, especially in the Black community, have been taught how to survive, but rarely how to truly thrive in every area of life. LIT University is here to help shift that narrative. Our goal is to provide for our community access to tools, resources, and hands on experiences that help people live and lead well. When we learn better, we get better. That’s the growth that has the power to impact families, schools, and future generations.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE THROUGHOUT LAUNCHING YOUR BUSINESS?
The biggest challenge has been believing in myself and fully owning that I have something worth offering. Building programs and developing people is natural. For over a decade, I’ve served in corporate learning and development, creating solutions and facilitating experiences that help individuals and teams grow. What was extremely challenging was stepping out as the face of a solution apart from my career. As a Black woman building a business rooted in learning, wellness, and generational change, there can be pressure to prove yourself. The fear of being seen and not shrinking back was real for me. Confidence is a master key!
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS?
First, start with your WHY. If you are aspiring to be an entrepreneur, take time to dig deeper than surface-level reasons like more money or flexibility. Ask yourself what problem(s) you care deeply about, how uniquely equipped you are to solve them, and what impact you want to make. Second, remember that while we all have strengths and skills, the marketplace responds to solutions. It can be easy to build a business around what we like or feel is needed, but successful businesses solve real problems. Do your research. Spend time in your community. Listen more than you speak. Pay attention to pain points and gaps. When you build at the intersection of who you are and what people genuinely need, that’s where impact and sustainability happen. Finally, don’t rush it! Entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. Growth and scale take time. Be committed to understanding what it takes to be the leader your vision requires.
