Health Department presents daunting infant mortality data
BY TAMIKA GOINES
In Indiana, the issue of infant mortality rates has raised concerns, prompting efforts to tackle the problem. Earlier this week the Vanderburgh County Health Department shared the latest data on infant mortality nationwide and in Indiana. According to the 2020 ranking by the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC), Indiana was positioned at 43rd in the nation for infant mortality. The presentation aimed to raise awareness of this issue and delve into potential solutions to support pregnant and post-partum mothers.
“African American women have the nation’s highest maternal mortality rate, nearly 75% of deaths related to pregnancy occurred among black women. Race related health disparities are among the starkest and most resistant to progress. It is time to create a movement to end these disparities, we are dying more we should be doing more.”
