Our Times Hoops

BY NATION JOHNSON | JUNIOR COLUMNIST

My name is Nation Johnson, and I am a Junior Columnist for Our Times Newspaper. Welcome to my column, Our Times Hoops! I am a senior at Harrison High School, I love sports, and one day I hope to be a sports commentator for a major network!

With basketball season in full effect and sectionals on the horizon, I am excited to introduce you to this new segment! On Our Times Hoops, you can expect an overview of Southern Indianan Athletic Conference (SIAC) basketball, scores, game previews, box scores, and standout players.

With that being said, the game of the week was Harrison High School vs Memorial. Going into this game, the matchup to keep an eye on was Harrison’s Malachi McNair who averaged 18 points and 10 boards last season and Tucker Tornatta who averaged 18 points and 9 boards last season.

As it turns out, it was Harrison Warriors with another W (win) and they checked off all the boxes in that one! They controlled the ball game all the way through, and it was a battle down low with Malachi McNair and Tucker Tornatta like we expected. Malachi finished the game with 17 points and 12 boards while Tucker finished with 15 points and 8 boards. We’ve come to expect that out of these two but, it was Shane Sims leading the charge for the warriors down the stretch with 25 points knocking down a barrage of three pointers and midrange shots. While Jay Summit was an absolute menace on the defensive end for the warriors guarding all positions. The final score of was 70-45.
