Eliza Kumapley, a freshman at the University of Southern Indiana, was recently awarded the Sara B. Davies Award at the 31st annual Celebration of Leadership Awards. The award recognizes young leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to service, leadership, and community impact.
Kumapley’s dedication to that work began early. As a middle school student, she volunteered with Bethany Christian Services in Ghana, and during her time at Signature School, she remained active in service efforts across the Evansville community. As part of her International Baccalaureate (IB) project, she founded READ, an after-school reading program at Lincoln Elementary School aimed at encouraging more students of color to pursue academic opportunities.
In addition to her service work, Kumapley has contributed to local journalism. She wrote for the Our Times inaugural Juneteenth magazine, where she interviewed Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry and reported on her second year in office. Through her work in education, service, and storytelling, Kumapley continues to build on her commitment to creating opportunities for others.
