Meet Dr. Danielle R. Williams, Owner of The Shield Insurance Solutions

As a pharmacist, Dr. Danielle Williams saw firsthand how confusing Medicare and health insurance could be, especially when patients had questions about supplements, plans, and dental or vision coverage. Those gaps inspired her to launch The Shield Insurance Solutions, a business dedicated to educating and empowering people to make confident decisions about their healthcare and finances.

Why did you decide to start this business?

I started The Shield Insurance Solutions because as a pharmacist, many of my patients were misled or overwhelmed by information about Medicare and health insurance.  I wanted to help educate people so they could understand the basics and make confident decisions for themselves without feeling pressured by sales tactics, ads, or marketing campaigns that don’t have their best interests at heart.

What do you hope this business will provide for the community?

I want this business to give our community confidence and clarity. Too many people feel intimidated by Medicare and health insurance, and that makes it easy for them to be steered into plans that don’t fit their needs. My goal is for clients to understand the basics—what their options are, what’s covered, what changes from year to year, and how different plans affect their health and finances. I want them to feel secure. Ultimately, I hope The Shield Insurance Solutions becomes a trusted place where people know they will get honest, plain-language information so they can choose coverage that truly supports their health, budget, and long-term peace of mind.

What has been your biggest challenge in launching your business?

My biggest challenge in launching this business was having the resources and mindset to get started. On the practical side, finding the money for startup costs and getting into the right rooms with the right people was tough. I had to learn how to network, build relationships, and position myself so others could see the value in what I offer. On the personal side, I battled with self-limiting beliefs and time management. Balancing everything while building something new was not easy. I had to push past fear, doubt, and the feeling that I had to have it all figured out before I began.

What is your advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?

My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to start even when you’re afraid. You don’t have to see the whole path—just take the next step. Be willing to work evenings and weekends while you’re building. In the beginning, you may not get paid what you’re worth, so choose something you genuinely care about and can stick with. Focus on one person at a time, one client at a time, and let consistency be your superpower. Slow and steady really does win the race. Do your best, even when it feels like your best isn’t enough. Be flexible, willing to pivot, and open to learning. The growth happens in the doing, not just in the planning, so don’t wait for perfect conditions—just start.
