Y’all Better Recognize!

By Serita Cabell

For the last few weeks there has been all kinds of discussion about President Biden’s fumble on the debate stage, to the egregious policies the Supreme Court is overturning or implementing, and even former President Trump’s felony conviction.

However, what isn’t being discussed ENOUGH is Project 2025. A 900-page monstrosity of severe right-wing supremacy and authoritarian plan to change America as we know -if it can be implemented. The even scarier part: it can be a go with or without the re-election of Trump rather anyone who is elected and claims to be about the people.

What is it exactly? A plan created by the Heritage Foundation, a coalition of more than 100 right-wing and/or conservative groups and organizations and has over 500,000 members.  On the surface there are things on the website that don’t seem alarming. They are about providing solutions, mobilizing conservatives, and training leaders.   They state they are trying to return power to the people and limit government.

Many of us probably have a little conservatism in us even if we think we’re liberal and vice versa. But then you get Project 2025. The initial goals or outlines seem simple again:

  1. Restore the family as the centerpiece of American life and protect our children.
  2. Dismantle the administrative state and return self-governance to the American people.
  3. Defend our nation’s sovereignty, borders, and bounty against global threats.
  4. Secure our God-given individual rights to live freely—what our Constitution calls “the Blessings of Liberty.”

That sounds fair right? However, after downloading the “playbook” from their site, I read through some of the plan. No, not all 992 pages, but the main components of the plan.  As I began to pull back the layers of this plan, the details began to get more complicated and downright scary. Here are a few components of the plan I found alarming:

  • Restoring the family front calls for: Deleting terms such as DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion), sexual orientation, gender, gender equality, gender equity,  abortion,  reproductive health,  reproductive rights,  (and more) out of every federal rule,  regulation,  contract, regulation and piece of legislation that exists.
  • Dismantling the administrative state calls for: handling the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) because it strangles domestic energy production; handle homeland security because they help migrants criminally enter the country without impunity; handle the department of education because they inject racism, anti-American, and ahistorical propaganda; handle the pentagon because they force troops to attend trainings about white privilege; and more.
  • Defending our nation’s sovereignty discusses elitism, why we shouldn’t join groups like the United Nations or European union; what they call environmental extremism, economic globalization, how big tech and Tik Tok are bad and not for “we the people”
  • The final front discusses our God-given given rights of not what we want to do but “ought to do” such as marriage, children, and Thanksgiving dinners.”

As stated earlier, many of us probably have a little conservatism and liberalism in us. Are there parts of project 2025 that you’ll read and say that’s not bad I agree but just like in the forward the foundation talks of handing President Regan a handbook to run the country and what some see as a success; You can go to procon.org and see just as many failures.
