Last month the Evansville Otters, in collaboration with the Evansville Latino Center, hosted a meaningful Community Service Day at Stockwell Park—widely known as “Parque Latino” due to the large number of Latino families who gather there regularly.

As part of this initiative, several players and front office representatives from the Otters organization dedicated their time to beautifying the park. The group planted a vibrant flower bed surrounding the park’s welcome sign, an area in need of enhancement, adding a visible symbol of care, pride, and shared responsibility within the community.

The day continued with a heartfelt and inspiring interaction between Otters players and members of Evansville’s first Latino youth baseball team, Los Lobos. Players from the Otters participating in the event represented a diverse group of backgrounds, including Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and various regions of the United States such as California and North Carolina.

During the exchange, Latino young athletes from Los Lobos engaged the professional players with thoughtful questions, including:

“What strategies do you use to win games?”

“What is your attitude when you don’t win?”

“What advice would you give us as young players?”

Otters players responded with encouraging and relatable messages, emphasizing perseverance, discipline, and passion for the game. Several players shared that they began their baseball journeys at the same age as the children, reinforcing a powerful message of possibility and aspiration.

The event concluded with a commemorative group photo, capturing a moment that reflects the positive impact of sports, mentorship, and community collaboration.

The Evansville Otters are a professional baseball team based in Evansville and a member of the Frontier League, known for their commitment to community engagement and family-friendly experiences.

The Evansville Latino Center continues to play a vital role in promoting inclusion, cultural pride, and opportunities for Latino families throughout the region.
