HELP MCDC find their Mobile Food Stand!!!

In 2022, Memorial Community Development Corp (MCDC) partnered with Bob Kopach, the visionary behind the Eco-Friendly Mobile Farm Stand Project, to help underserved communities access fresh food. MCDC has been operating a community garden since 2011. The program serves a dual purpose: providing affordable fresh food to the community and offering employment opportunities for youth aged 14-24. These young individuals learn to plant, grow, harvest, and sell the produce. Any unsold food is donated to those in need, including local food pantries.

With Kopach’s support and a collaboration with the Evansville Housing Authority’s Youth Build program, a golf cart was converted into a mobile stand in 2023. Students modified the cart by removing the seats and creating a flatbed to hold the produce. Named “Freedom Farms Mobile Market,” the goal was to drive the cart to various neighborhoods and sell the produce, offering an environmentally friendly solution to food access in the center city.

Unfortunately, the project is not able to launch due to theft and burglary of the food stand last Monday evening. The golf cart, along with other gardening equipment, was stolen, and the shed which housed the supplies was vandalized. This unfortunate reality underscores the struggles faced by the community and the disregard some individuals have for others’ hard work.

MCDC is asking for the community’s help! If you see this golf cart or have any information about those responsible, please contact the police or call 812-423-2500. The program is funded by the City of Evansville Department of Metropolitan Development.
