My name is James Clements, and I am an Independent Financial Advisor of World Finance Group (WFG). WFG is a company that sells financial planning services, such as insurance and retirement products. I am licensed in the state of Indiana.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START THIS BUSINESS?
Initially I started this endeavor because I had an epiphany about my career as a barber. I enjoy the craft of cutting hair and making people feel and look good, but I knew it wasn’t something I wanted to do forever, so I began to explore other interests. Being introduced to the financial services industry, it aligned with my values and a way in which I could serve people and the community.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE THIS BUSINESS WILL PROVIDE TO THE COMMUNITY?
When I think about this business and what it will provide to the community, the word that comes to mind is empowerment. I want to help people feel more empowered to better understand their finances and achieve their goals. People go to the gym to improve health, but where do they go to improve their finances? I want to help others make the best decisions while they are working, so that when they are ready to retire, they can live the life they aspire to live.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS OF LAUNCHING YOUR BUSINESS?
The biggest challenge is to get people to really talk about their finances and open to the opportunity of working with an advisor. People are very guarded and don’t want to share the challenges they may be experiencing, possibly because of shame or embarrassment.
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS?
First, I would advise entrepreneurs to align their desires with their values. There will be times when you encounter challenges and you want to throw the towel in, but when your aspirations align with your values it keeps you motivated and helps you persevere. Also, you must face your fears and find ways to pour into yourself, which helps to overcome self-doubt.
