History of Our Times Newspaper
1983
After witnessing how local media covered the mistreatment and firing of a Black executive director in local government, Sondra L. Matthews starts the Inner City Reporter. Her mission was to record, illuminate and promote all aspects of Black life in the Greater Evansville region. The paper would later be renamed In Our Times.
2015
DeMarco Hampton, a key figure in the transition from the Inner City Reporter to In Our Times and nephew of Sondra Matthews, passes away. Sondra Matthews would singlehandedly lead the newspaper’s operations until her retirement.
