The Pearls of Distinction Foundation, Inc., affiliated with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s Zeta Zeta Omega Chapter, recently continued its long-standing commitment to supporting families in the Evansville community. The Foundation donated $1,000 to the Tri-State Food Bank, a contribution that will provide an estimated 6,000 meals to area families and offer critical support for Mayor Stephanie Terry’s Food Security Initiative. The initiative aims to assist households affected by the loss of SNAP benefits and ensure that families have access to nutritious food during difficult times.

“The loss of SNAP benefits can be a devastating setback for many families, affecting their ability to put food on the table,” said Zeta Zeta Omega President Debra Mosley. “Through our support of this initiative, we hope to provide immediate relief and promote long-term food security for those facing difficult times.”

Foundation President Jennifer Douglas added, “Our commitment to supporting the families of Evansville is rooted in our belief that no one should go hungry. We commend the leadership of Mayor Terry and the collaboration shown by all involved in this initiative. We look forward to seeing the positive difference our joint efforts will make in the lives of our fellow citizens.”

This donation is part of the Foundation’s broader mission to serve children, families, and neighborhoods throughout Evansville. In addition to this contribution, the Pearls of Distinction Foundation continues its community-centered work through several ongoing programs and initiatives:

  • Denim & Diamonds, the Foundation’s signature fundraising event, supports year-round program initiatives.
  • Seven scholarships were awarded this year to young women pursuing college degrees.
  • The Youth Leadership Institute, currently operating at McGary Middle School, provides mentoring and leadership development for students.
  • CHIPPS (Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack Services) supplies weekend and holiday meals to children facing food insecurity.
  • The upcoming Breakfast with Santa event will serve 200 children and their parents, providing breakfast, books, and toys.
  • The Foundation has also adopted Stevenson Park, working to maintain a safe space for children to gather and play.

The Foundation encourages other organizations, churches, and members of Greek-letter groups to join in supporting families affected by food insecurity. Together, these efforts can create meaningful change and help ensure that every household has access to the resources they need.
