Whether it has been local, national or global here recently it has been great to see Black athletes compete and do well in their respective sports.
From local Quarterback Elijah Wagner winning the SIAC athlete of the year, to Sha’carri Richardson’s comeback story heading to the Paris Olympics, to Kristen Hayden becoming the first black woman to win a national diving title or even Biniam Girmay winning 2 stage tours of the Tour De France all of it has been exciting!
Not because black athletes haven’t been known to be great but with so much adversity almost resurfacing against Black people in different formats that it can be daunting at times to celebrate. From DEI, voters rights, financial to educational attacks it is sometimes overwhelming and overshadowing of the good things still going on.
Today we celebrate the athletes still showing up for their high school and local communities as well as those shining bright on the global stage and the wonderful accomplishments and history that you all are making.
